Hello, I am Ben Wong, a tiny swordsmith and a fool
I'm a miniature blacksmith based in the UK. I started teaching myself how to forge in the shed- I lacked the space to make anything full sized, so I started small and slowly became more and more obsessed.
Over the next 6 years I devoted my evenings and weekends learning the art of sword making by creating functional and anatomically correct miniatures, and then ruined a perfectly good hobby by turning it into a side business.
I consider myself a beginner in most skills and disciplines, and often end up learning skills on the fly, as different projects and builds require new solutions. All my work is 100% handmade, with no outsourcing, 3d printing, resin or other modern "hacks" to bypass the process of hand crafting, and I strive to use authentic and traditional materials and techniques wherever possible.
In 2023, I was fortunate enough to be made redundant from my job and decided to go full-time with The Pocket Forge. It was something I was hoping to do further down the line and in no way felt ready for, but as the saying goes, if you don't jump you will be pushed!
My maker journey is just beginning and most of my work is available to buy through my online store, and I also accept custom commissions and sell at physical markets across the UK.
I also like to learn and share my knowledge, often posting videos of my own process on social media.
My work has also received wider recognition from Tested's Adam Savage, and I was also invited to collaborate with Alec Steele on his Youtube channel!
